Lulu Love...

We are up in Boulder, Colorado for the birth of our neice (Ella Vaughn) who arrived into this world 3 1/2 months early to the surprise of EVERYONE. She & mom are doing well after 4 stressful days in the ICU.

Anyway, this morning I decided I needed a little ZEN time after all of the hospital time so I attended a free yoga class at Lululemon...it was a delightful (and crowded) yoga flow class followed by tea and bagels and shopping. I got their bootcamp gym bag; a pair of black outdoor long shorts and a few new tops. Nothing like yoga class followed up by some retail therapy to start your Sunday off right! For those of you who haven't been in a Lululemon store, you must seek one out on your journeys. You can view their product line & manifesto at http://www.lululemon.com/

Letting Go of Perfect...

There is a great article in this month's Hallmark Magazine. It's not online yet, but you can pick up a copy at at store near year. The author, Karen Houppert, seeks advice from Sarah Susanka, the guu of simple living & author of The Not So Big House and The Not So Big Life. Karen's life as she describes it is, "a mess and I am buried alive under a to do list." Sound familiar? Karen also wants to overcome the feeling of guilt that comes from the very idea of stealing a few minutes for herself.
Sarah's advice - Don't think of time alone as "indulgence." Thing of it as a practical and remind yourself that you will be more effective in the long run if you take time for yourself.
So, what are you waiting for? Schedule in that "ME-Time" in your momME planner or organizeME planner today!

SELF

Kathleen Hall, author of Life in Balance, has adopted a powerful but surprisingly simple mantra - SELF - an acronym for Serenity, Exercise, Love & Food. She states, "By attending to these roots each day, you learn to stay focused and intentional."

exercise is good for the brain...

A new study indicates that exercise boosts brainpower by building new brain cells in a brain region linked with memory and memory loss (the dentate gyrus, a part of the hippocampus)

How To Do Legs Up the Wall - Viparita Karani

Type of Pose: Restorative, mild inversion
Benefits: Achieves many of the benefits of inversions in a supported, gentle pose.

Instructions:
1. Come to sit next to a wall with the side of your body on the wall and your knees bent into the chest.
2. Bring the lower back onto the floor while bringing the legs up the wall. Keep the upper body supported with the elbows on the floor.
3. Slowly release the elbows and lower the whole back down to the floor.
4. Stay here several minutes if you are comfortable.
5. To come out, bring the knees into your chest and roll to your side.
You may wish to support the low back with a bolster or several folded blankets placed right at the wall and parallel to the wall. This also increases the angle of inversion.
You may try different position with your legs, such as with knees bent and the soles of the feet touching.

7 things always on my to do list...

1) mop the floors (between the wet & dirty golden retriever and the glitter glue this is a daily NEED to do)
2) workout
3) call friends or family back
4) take Sam somewhere fun
5) do yoga
6) cook dinner
7) meditate

Now, these don't get done everyday...actually, I rarely get them all checked off but they are the ones that appear day after day on mom momme planner. and i think the fact that meditate & yoga appear on the list is a bit of an oxymoron, don't you think? shouldn't i just do them out of intention and not because they are on the list?

What's always on your TO DO list?

One Bag = One Fed Child

Finally, my bag obsession can do some good for the world.

World Food Programme Feed Bag Fast Facts...

- Buying one World Food Programme FEED bag feeds a child in school for one school year.
- School feeding acts as a magnet, dramatically increasing enrollment, sometimes by as much as 100 percent. It also improves performance at school; children concentrate better on a full stomach. Girls who go to school not only marry later but have half as many children than illiterate women. Furthermore, these children are healthier and better educated.
- 19 cents a day or 34 dollars a year can transform a child's life and provide the tools for a lifetime of self-reliance. School feeding is a simple but effective way to beat hunger and poverty.
- The FEED Project is a partnership between the United Nations World Food Program and Lauren Bush, WFP Honorary Spokesperson.
- Reversible!
- $60.00 at Amazon.com (doesn't ship until mid-July)

I ordered several and am using them for gifts for everyone I know.

6 tips for ME time...

When was the last time you DIDN'T wish for an 8th day of the week or a 25th hour in the day or wish that your body just didn't need sleep?

With lives so exciting & jam packed, it's easy to push time for yourself OFF the over-flowing list of things to do. The momME weekly planner by LobotoME, LLC encourages you to schedule time for yourself in it's delightful row called ME TIME.

1) Schedule ME Time. At the beginning of the week plan some things just for you. Ideas: yoga class, a 1/2 walk during lunchtime away from your desk, a trip to the bookstore on your way home from work or a Saturday morning trip to the bookstore (all by yourself). Be flexible...if your goal of going to pilates class at noon didn't happen, take 15 minutes before bed to do some stretches and read a magazine in peace. The important thing is to make it a PRIORITY to take time for yourself each and every day so you can stay sane, recharged and nice. :)

2) Throw away all the post-it notes and wall calendars. Think weekly for the details, monthly for an overview of big impact events, like holidays, travel or special events. The momME weekly planner or organizeME weekly planner are perfect for this.

3) Plan a weekly adventure date - either solo, with your partner or whole family. Try something new each week - a new restaurant, a new hike, a new grocery store, a new meal...Keep things fresh.

4) Schedule a girls night out at least once a month. Time with friends is so key to maintaining your sanity.

5) Each Sunday evening, take out your weekly planner, schedule all of your meetings, kids activities, etc. Figure out your dinner plans for each night and make a corresponding grocery list. Schedule in exercise each day and ME Time each day. Just do it.

6) Don't sweat the small stuff. What's more important - a sparkling bath-tub or reading another book to your daughter? Exactly.

I love cupcakes!

Okay, so I know my whole company is about helping make you more sane, more healthy and more happy. So, if we look soley at the last objective - happiness - one of the things that has always made me happy were cupcakes. Something that makes me even happier is that Sprinkles (the famous LA cupcake store) is now selling their cupcake mixes online.

So, don't eat these everyday...but once & awhile it is okay to indulge. Smile.

Sane Yoga Practice

iYogaLife.com sat down with Molly Sims and her yoga teacher Kathleen Kastner at Maha Yoga in Santa Monica, California to learn a little bit about their practice. It is the mantra of her practice, "Be still and know" that helps keep Molly sane. And since we are all about keeping sane, we thought we'd share. Check out these video clips and get the view from Molly's mat.

An om-free way to wind down

Heart-rhythm meditation

What: A relaxation technique that synchronizes heartbeat and breathing, helping you gain control over your body's natural stress repsonse (eg. learn to calm a racing heartbeat).

How: Sit up straight, shoulders back. Empty your lungs with an extra long exhalation. Then inhale deeply and hold your breath whil putting your hand over your heart to feel it beating. Silently and smoothly exhale for the length of six hearbeats; then inhale for the lenght of six more. Repeat for several minutes when you feel stressed out.

Goal: Be more aware of what your breath and body are doing throughout the day.
