Here's our weekly meal plan...

Some of you have asked how much we spend each week on food - it varies but I aim to keep it somewhere around $125. This week's cost of groceries = {$85} - note: I already had some stuff (chicken, salmon in freezer) and everything I bought is organic.

Hi Aimee - No, that's what we used to spend ($150-$250 per week) before I got super serious about meal planning and LOOKING inside the freezer ;-). I also am buying oats, beans, almonds, etc. in bulk. Oh and we don't have a whole foods or wild oats here but if we did i'm sure i would spend more $$$.... :)

where are you buying in bulk? sorry, miss nosy here. your menu looks great. i agree meal planning saves much $$$$.

i'm struggling with my food buying - shopping at too many places - costco, trader joes. organic delivery, and when needed QFC. I want to streamline my buying.

I shop at City Market - general food store with lots of organic offerings - its like a safeway or King Soopers I guess...and then bulk organic products from a local natural foods store & things I can't get a the regular store - eg. kombucha, yerba matte tea, etc. - so generally 1 stores each Monday morning (or Sunday afternoon) and the natural foods store every other week...I do go to Sam's Club (kind of like Costco) - which is over an hour drive - we live in a mt. town in the middle of nowhere - there isn't even a TARGET within an hour drive...anyway, once every few months I'll go Sams Club to get TP, frozen fruit, etc. We get our fish from Will's dad who lives in Alaska - so he fed ex's us a bunch of fresh salmon & halibut each summer which generally lasts us 6 months - a year. We've been eating more veggie meals though which has helped keep grocery costs down. I don't do the whole run all over town to 6 different stores to save $5 thing...my time is worth more than that - I try to keep it simple. And if I have a meal in mind but get to the store and see that the price of free range chicken or whatever is higher than usual, I'll fall back on something else... We've also been starting to get some greens from the garden (arugula)... I imagine as Henry starts eating more and more solid foods, our grocery bills will keep going up and up.
