{ UNplanned chaos }

We have our hands full with a possible adoption {yipee!!!}. I will post the winners of the giveaway within the next few weeks and send the prizes in mid-September and update the blog when I can. Will write more when we know more. Keep your fingers crossed and thanks for your patience and understanding.

* Monday Update: No news yet...birthmom isn't in labor yet - she is 70% effaced and starting contractions. We think Labor Day would be a GREAT day for her to go into LABOR! Thanks for all of your emails and comments and well wishes!

** Tuesday @noon Update: Birthmom's contractions have slowed down. She is still at home. No baby yet but we get to meet her on Thursday am so we are really excited about that! Keep your fingers crossed that she still thinks we are great after meeting us in person! :-)

*** Wednesday Update: No baby yet. Tomorrow we meet the birthmom who still hasn't given BIRTH! :) Thank you (in advance) Kristina (Samme's sweet Aunt) for taking care of Samme while we spend the morning at the adoption agency. The birthmom also has a doctors appt. tomorrow so we should find out more about when this sweet little baby really is going to come into the world tomorrow as well. We are just keeping busy getting ready for our Vail Race this weekend and spending time with Samme! Thanks again for all of your emails, calls and support!

**** Thursday Night Update: No baby yet. :( But met with the birthmom and she is wonderful. She still thinks the little guy is going to come soon....

***** Monday morning Update: No baby yet!!! I am going crazy! :) We decided to head back home and get some stuff done here (which means we are a 6 hour drive from the hospital) so hopefully she has a semi-long labor. :-) But he isn't officially due until October 1st so I guess it could still be a few more weeks....aaaahhhhh!!!!!

{ a day in the life of ME }

Today's {day in the life of ME} guest post is from a dear friend Sarah. I met Sarah years ago when she was my yoga teacher. She & her darling family have since moved from Durango but we still keep in touch and she is my uber-talented graphic designer for a lot of the LobotoME line. Be sure to check out her great blog here. Welcome Sarah!

I’m a thirty-one-year-old, work-from-home, happily married mother to a 2-year-old girl. When my husband and I met my sophomore year of college, everyone thought we were a good fit because we were both ‘old fashioned.’ I’d say that’s still pretty much the case. We live relatively simply. I’m a graphic designer with my own business, based out of the extra room in our home. My husband quit his career as an airline pilot after our daughter was born, so I ramped up my business while he’s watched our daughter and gone through the rigors of changing a career. Since we’re all home together, we eat three meals together a day. We hang clothes on the line. We have a garden. We don’t watch TV. We drive old cars. We’re relatively frugal. All of our furniture is from a garage sale, family member, or the occasional dumpster!

My typical day goes something like this:
6:30 am: Wake up, have black tea (with milk and honey) and toast with peanut butter, feed my daughter, chat and catch up with my husband, get ready for the day
8 am: Walk downstairs to my office, check email and blogs (~15 mins, sometimes more), start working*
9 am: Kiss my daughter bye (who goes next door to our neighbor’s house, with whom we share a part-time nanny). She spends about 10 hours a week over there so my husband can get some work done.
10-12: Work, sneak in a workout**, have lunch with the family when my daughter comes back.
1-5 pm: Work at my desk
5-6 pm: Prepare or help with dinner***, play with my daughter outside, water the garden
6-7pm: Eat dinner
7-9pm: Play with my daughter, bathtime, hang out with my husband, bedtime for my daughter
9-10 pm: Read and/or hang out with my husband
10-11pm: Bed
*Work consists of everything from logo and print design to packaging and websites. I do a lot of work for non-profits in Colorado, and for the past year have been involved with emagineGreen, a women-run eco direct sales company based in Arizona.
** Exercise happens either early, before breakfast (usually a run, bike ride, or yoga), at lunch (yoga), or afternoon (a Zumba dance class). It is best accomplished when I have it planned out ahead of time. I also teach a yoga class once a week – with moms and babies, and I’m training to do a marathon in September (run/walk).

Feed ME
***I’m mostly vegetarian, so meals this summer often consist of a variation of greens or squash from the garden, tofu or beans or fish, and rice or other grain or pasta. (Unless my husband prepares the meal! – then it’s more likely to include chicken, and a vegetable other than greens!) We’re on a pretty tight budget, so we’ve eaten a lot of beans and grilled tofu (really quite good!) this summer. I also can’t say enough about having my own garden. I am in no way an expert gardener – I have found that if you water anything enough it grows!

Free time
I don’t have a lot of free time these days (sound familiar?). It’s crazy – after you have a child you realize how little ‘extra’ time you have – once all of the ‘must-do’s’ are off the list, when I do have a moment, I love snuggling up with a good magazine or book, doing yoga, making something, baking, meditating (very rare these days). I used to be a prolific journaler, but that hasn’t happened much since my daughter was born. I probably don’t make enough time to do the things that are really important to me, and instead spend too much time screensucking (blogs are a blessing and a curse). We don’t have watch TV in our house (although the Olympics was an exception, and the rabbit ear antenna above our TV worked quite well, thank you.)

Chocolate saves the day
My goal right now is to declutter and simplify my life. I’m thinking that might help me feel less scattered and overwhelmed. There’s always too much to read/too many recipes to make/crafts to try/ideas and theories to explore/self improvement goals to attain. Often I just get so overwhelmed that I don’t do any of it! So I’m wondering if paring down first the physical stuff, around me, then setting goals to simplify my life will help? Just physically reducing the number of things vying for my attention (unread magazines and books, unfinished craft and art projects (can anyone say wedding album?), then online blogs and resources, clothes I never wear, etc etc.) It seems on any given day my attention is diverted in so many directions that I get so bogged down, I get nothing done (except my work deadlines!). What if I, simply put, had less stuff to focus my attention on? I already don’t watch TV, read a paper, and rarely listen to the news (sometimes to my embarrassment), but I often feel so info-glutted it’s as if I’m in a vortex and don’t even feel tuned in to the basic inner-workings of me, my life, and how I’m feeling at any given time. When it gets really intense (and I’m triggered by the stress of work), I head to the kitchen to look for something sugary (ideally chocolate).

Being aware
Although I have crazed days that result in that vortex-like feeling, for the most part, I am aware of how I’m feeling at any given time. I’m tuned in to my body. I do pay attention to those things. Being aware is a constant challenge, but a goal that I work towards. Vipassana meditation, from the Buddhist tradition, is my spirituality. And it helps with the whole awareness thing. My awareness is prioritized: 1. Paying attention to ME – taking care of myself so that I can 2. Be there for my daughter and husband – fully present, engaged, not resentful, and happy. I also need to remember to practice compassion, and send lovingkindness to myself when I get frazzled, and accept things as they are (of course, I need to slow down long enough to have a chance to recognize that I’m frazzled, and then to send those compassionate thoughts my way!) I’m also planning on having another child, so it’s about to get more interesting!

ME time
The best way I can take care of myself amidst the busyness of my life is to schedule time for ME (and if you’re reading Jenny’s blog, you know all about this!). And I’ve found that that ME-time is best utilized when it involves moving my body. I sit all day at a computer, so exercise or yoga is the best and most valuable use of my ‘free’ time, then say, a craft project (although I’d love to have time to do that, too!) Exercise affects me in other ways: it reduces my stress level, inspires me to eat healthy, and keeps me feeling good about myself. It is a home run. Now if I can just remember that and not slack off … (oh, and my mantra after becoming a mama in regards to exercise? ‘Something’s better than nothing’!)

Grateful
I feel really blessed to have a job I love (most days!), an incredibly supportive husband, a beautiful child, good health, and a home. I have so much to be grateful for. Here’s a good quote on that front, which I’ll end with. Pretty much sums things up for me right now:
“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity... It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.” --Melodie Beattie

Have a wonderful day everyone!

{ this sums it up for ME }

Loving this print from EliseJoy.

{ YOU can do IT }

Here are some great tips on how to make fitness & exercise a part of your everyday routine. So far this month, I've been doing good - I only missed one day but the day before I went on a 1 1/2 hour hike and 1 1/2 hour yoga class. So I figure that counts, right? :) But I haven't stepped up my running yet... 3 mile runs are not going to get ME across the finish line for the half marathon coming up in {gulp} less than 2 months. So, next week while we are back in NY visiting my grandparents I'm going to take advantage of running at sea level and RUN, RUN, RUN using my new method and new watch. I'll be taking a few days off from the blog but that doesn't mean you {or ME} can take a few days off from fitness! :)

Less than 10 days left in Fit ME month. Rock ON girls!

pps - Had a great time at recent girls weekend away - met some friends in Moab for some hiking, yoga, pool time & margaritas! It is amazing how a weekend away with great woman can re-inspire ME! And one of them is going to be a guest blogger next week....stay tuned.

ps - You still have a week left to enter the {get your yoga ON fab giveaway}!

{ BE nice }

I don't think I could love this Operation Nice project anymore than I already do!
Sam & I are going to leave the Operation Nice notes & postcards around the airport next week on our trip back east to see my grandparents! Mission: BE nice.

Seriously though, as a mom, I can't think of anything MORE important in this world than raising nice, kind, respectful children! What a great way to teach kids the importance of being NICE.

ps - You can download the sign above and little Nice notes from their website.

{ drink ME }

Jen asked what water bottles I use...

For short runs I use this.

For out & about, at my desk & yoga class, I use this or this.

For long runs or hikes I use this.

And from the store or gas station I love Smartwater.

I try to avoid using plastics and you can't go wrong with any of the cool, eco-friendly sigg bottles.

{ run walk run }

So, I've received lots of questions about my running routine and how I am training for my 1/2 marathon this fall. First, let ME make this clear... I am not a runner. I am a mom, a biz owner, a wife, a mt. biker, a hiker, a yogi, many, many things but I have never considered myself a runner. This past weekend I was complaining to a friend about how it has been hard to motivate to do longer runs because I JUST KNOW it will be painful. She told ME about a great running training program that she uses by Jeff Galloway. The basic premise is to take walk breaks. So say you have a 10 minute mile - you should run for 3 minutes and then walk for a minute. Then repeat for the duration of your run. The idea is that little breaks help keep you motivated and breathing and that you use different muscles while walking than running so you are going easier on your body. Brilliant! Why didn't I think of this sooner! So the plan this week is to give it a go...I had Will set up my watch to beep at those intervals and I am going to go for a LONG run this weekend. And if you are new to running or trying to get back into it why not start with a slow jog for 1 minute and then walk for a minute and repeat? Give it a GO and let ME know what you think! I'll write more on this soon! Anyone had any experience with the Jeff Galloway plan?

ps- is that not the cutest picture EVER of my little girl when she was little running through sprinklers?

pps - I run in a skirt usually - here's one of my favorites from Athleta on sale for $14.99! Score!

{ pray with ME }

One of my favorite bloggers, Nie Nie (Stephanie) was in a private plane crash this past weekend with her husband. They are both in critical condition. They have 4 darling kids. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Another reminder to us all that life is short. Turn off the computer, head home from work early today & go hug your family.

{ feed your body + soul }

According to Ayurvedic texts; exercise has 3 main functions:

1. To rejuvenate the body & cultivate the mind.
2. To remove stress.
3. To develop mind-body coordination.

What can you do to touch on all of these this week?
I'm going to make a hiking date with friends this weekend for #1; I'm going to go to yoga class to remove stress (yoga works wonders for ME in all 3 of these arenas); and for #3 I am going to work at {enjoying} running more instead of saying how much I hate it. I am going to be grateful for the fact that I CAN run.

Here are some tips on how to take care of your body:
1. Eat healthy foods that energize you.
2. Get 7-8 hours of sleep every night.
3. Exercise daily...even if it just a walk around the neighborhood.
4. Drink plenty of water each day!

{ feedback }

I've had people complain that my honey do list (with the skull and the 'do this or die' tagline} was insensitive and crude. :-) Those comments generally make ME laugh because I personally think the skull is hilarious. However, we've got a non-skull, non-death version drafted. Comments? Opinions? Do you like the house one better than the skull?

{ organize ME & simple ME link luv }

Loved this organized family home in the most recent issue of Real Simple magazine and this post of why it is important to simplify from Frugal Dad.

{ weekly workout plan }

This past week I stepped it up a notch and worked out for 8.5 hours. Next week I want to do more and add more running into the mix. I've already lost 2 lbs! And I eat plenty (today I even indulged in a yummy cupcake at a kids bday party - it was made from a Wellness Bakeries mix and it was fantastic!) More about this cool company soon.

It's amazing how much better I feel on the days I do workout - more energy & more sanity {and you know we are all about staying out of the loony bin here at LobotoME!} It's been tough carving out this time during a super busy month of the year {stores are ordering for the holiday season and we are ramping up our production & we still have 2 big races left to put on in September} but it feels GOOD!

Anyway this week's plan is:

Monday - Cardio Sculpt - 1.0 hour
Tuesday - 3 mile run & .30 min yoga
Wednesday - Boot Camp - 1.5 hours
Thursday - 6 mile run & .30 min yoga - 1.5 hours
Friday - Hike - 1.5 hours & maybe some swimming
Saturday - Power Yoga - 2.0 hours
Sunday - Hike - 1.5 hours
Total Hours: 10 hours!

My big test will be the last week in August - I'm heading back east to visit my grandparents - I'm packing my running shoes & my swimsuit but can I keep up this pace & training while on vacation with a 4 year old (dear husband is not joining ME)?

Stay tuned Monday for another great giveaway in honor of Fit ME month!

{ i'm figuring this thing called LIFE out & the winner is... }

Realization: This little girl makes ME wiser everyday.

I have figured out that I can either be drug down by the amount of stuff I have to do, or I can choose to realize that my days are always full and never boring. Yup, I'll take the always full and never boring. So, today, when you look around and think about how NUTS your life is - what if you shifted your perspective and looked around and said, "Look how FULL my life is."

I have also figured out that MY time is MY time. I can choose how to spend it. I can choose to LIVE life or read about others lives. I can choose to waste my time or use it wisely. I can choose to rush through each day or I can choose living mindfully and being in the present moment more.

Having said that, I am only going to be blogging (on my site or others), twittering, blog surfing, etc. on M, W, F (the days that Sam is at preschool). I contemplated bagging this whole blog thing entirely but I am going to try the M, W, F thing and see if that works for awhile. I am only going to read blogs that inspire ME, the rest are being removed from my google reader. And the days that Sam is home with ME, are going to be all about HER. Work is just going to have to wait. Orders will have to wait. Phone calls & emails will have to wait a day. That's all there is too it. She is growing up too fast. Too darn fast. This article inspired ME to make this change as did this great blogger (who I will miss). What if we eliminate all but the essential tasks - how much FREE time would that make available to spend time with family, to exercise, to cook healthy dinners, to work on the garden, etc.?

ps - The winner of the blog giveaway (chosen at random) by my husband is....Daphne. I'm also going to send out a Fit ME planner to bikiniyogini who had the funniest comment! Email me your mailing addresses and I will get your prize in the mail next week! Thanks to all who entered! Stay tuned for the next 3 Monday's for more great giveaways (a new Helly Hansen workout outfit and a complete yoga package & more!)

{ Fit ME...week one redux}

I am counting last week as my week ONE, but I know a lot of you started this week. I'm so excited that so many of you are motivated to get in shape or start your training for an event!

Here's what I did last week (click on image for larger view).

And here's my plan for this week. I'm aiming to bump up the total # of hours as well as the distance of my runs this week. And lots more water...

M- Cardio Sculpt (1 hour)
T - Run/Walk (1 hour of yoga at home)
W - Cardio Sculpt (1.0 hours) & .30 min run/walk
Th - Run/Walk (1 hour) - maybe 5-6 mile run?
F - Cardio Sculpt (1 hour)
Saturday - Power Yoga (1.5 hours)
Sunday - Power Walk with baby jogger (1 hour) & .30 min. of yoga at home
Total time: 8.5 hours

Next week: Boot camp class starts & girls yoga weekend!

If you need some workout ideas here are some of my favs...

All of you moms - Put the kids in the baby jogger and GO! They get fresh air, you get exercise! Have them point out fun things they see - animals, flowers, different colored house s & cars!

Trail running (way, way more FUN than road running). If you are just getting started, just hike!

Fitness videos from Netflix.

Yoga Today - yoga videos online. And FREE. { There are a few minutes of commercials at the beginning, but I usually listen to those while setting up my yoga mat, computer, etc.) }

Don't forget to sign up for the great giveaway (and stay tuned next Monday for another great one)!

{ lobotoME luv }

The Pack ME notepad was featured on Unclutterer yesterday {thanks Monica!}

And what you ask could be even more exciting that being featured on Unclutterer? Not too much, but how about LobotoME products coming up soon on Delight! Woohoo!

And while I'm on the subject of random FUN things...What's this whole Twitter thing about? Frankly, I don't have much of a clue but I'm trying it out. I guess I'm using it mostly to post little tiny tidbits - things that don't quite amount to an entire blog post but are a part of my life, a part of ME each day. Part of ME feels like it is another thing to set up & maintain but if it helps ME keep connected to all of YOU, then it will be worth it (I think!) So, check it out little birdies and let ME know what you think.

{ Fit ME month challenge }

Get Ready, Get Set, GO!

So, here's my plan. {Click on image to get a larger view}. A workout planned for and scheduled everyday....a helpful tip...do it with a friend or pre-sign up. I'm much less likely to BAIL if someone is waiting for ME or I have forked over $$ for it. Each week I want to increase the amount of time and the intensity of my workouts. Oh, and I'd like to get rid of 5 lbs while I'm at.

Here are some specifics. I am going to use my Fit ME notepad - but you can jot it down in your planner or use a google calendar to plan & track for your daily workouts. The key is to do something. Even if it is just a 30 minute walk or jog. EVERYDAY.

I am going to use my free one month of yoga card (that I won back in January) so I am going to try to fit in as many yoga classes as possible in August. FREE.

I signed up for a 3 week Boot Camp Class at a fitness center here that will likely kick my butt (thus I will need lots of the aforementioned yoga). It's 2 nights a week for 1/5 hours per class - it begins August 12th. $125

I am going to spend a weekend in Moab with the girls (all moms) in mid-August doing lots of yoga & lots of hiking (I won't discuss the excessive margarita drinking that will likely occur). Fun, Fun!

I signed up today for a 1/2 Marathon this fall. Need to start running again. No more excuses. Enough said. $65.

Oh and did I mention I'd like my legs to look like this...

Stay tuned for my daily workouts, fitness tips, some great fitness related giveaways & more this month. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Whose with ME for the next 31 days? Join ME for a chance to win a LobotoME Fit ME notepad. Just leave ME a comment and let ME know how you are going to have a Fit ME month.

Tune in on Monday for a BIG, BIG Fit ME GIVEAWAY!

ps - I'll be posting my workouts, etc. on Twitter.
